International Day of Forests

International Day of Forests

Today is the United Nation's International Day of Forests. Forests are so important to humans in many ways - from the air that we breathe, to where we relax and the homes we live in. The Huffington Post points out 21 reasons to celebrate trees - today and every day.

What better way for your students to learn about the value of forests than to go outside? Taking your classes outside to work connects your students to nature. And conducting field activities opens their eyes to new careers they may never have thought possible. If you don't have access to a forest near your school, your students can still experience the beauty of tropical forests through the TEAM Network stories about Badru and Patricia's work in tropical forests in Uganda and Peru. You can even lead your students through lessons about each of the short films (Patricia's Story and Badru's Story)!

How will you inspire your students to appreciate forests?
